As someone who loves all things culinary, trying new recipes and creations is always interesting. And when the recipe is simple and easy to follow? That just takes the cake. However, the idea of “life-hack” desserts such as mug cakes and short ingredient lists have always been an area of mystery and on the receiving end of skepticism from me.
Having tried many different recipes fo muffins, brownies, pies, and more, I know that often the very best of recipes has been crafted to extract the most from its ingredients and produce delicacies that are flavorful and delicious. After once spending over 10 hours in the kitchen over the span of two days to create a single cake, I am well aware of the results time, patience, and a well crafted recipe can yield.
The idea of being to throw some ingredients into a mug and have a cup of cake in less than 10 minutes seems almost too good to be true. Being a high school student, this is more than appealing, since a consistently busy schedule and late nights of homework don’t allow for hours to be spent baking.
Busy schedules aside, are five-minute foods really worth it? Does the speed and ease of these recipes compensate and shine over possible drawbacks such as nutrition and perhaps quality?
That is what my Independent Study Project aims to do, with the beginning with one dessert that is definitely a crowd-favorite: chocolate cake.
